 BBQ Jackfruit Sandwiches


These BBQ jackfruit sandwiches are loaded with BBQ flavors and the texture of the shredded jackfruit makes it amazing instead of roasted meat.


Who would have thought that jackfruit (a tropical fruit) could make such a delicious BBQ sandwich?


It turns out to be the perfect ingredient of leftover meat based on the plant because its texture really looks and feels like crushed meat ... even beyond the hearts of the palm BBQ, IMO.

What is Jackfruit?

Jackfruit is very tasty when ripe but when ripe it has a soft flavor that captures the flavor of the dish.

The texture of the jackfruit is similar to the chopped meat that makes it another plant based on the plant.

It has low calories but is high in antioxidants, fiber, potassium and vitamin C. It does not have a lot of protein so be sure to combine it with a high protein diet to get a full meal.

You will find jackfruit pre-packaged or near tofu and tempeh in a cool place with the product or tin next to other canned fruits and vegetables.


Here's What You Need In These BBQ Sandfits Jackfruit

jackfruit - you will only need one can of green / small jackfruit filled with water. Make sure it is a green (or small) variety because ripe jackfruit is delicious! I have never tried this recipe with fresh jackfruit.

olive oil or avocado - to bake onions and garlic.

vegetables - onions and garlic to add a delicious, delicious flavor base to peeled jackfruit!

spices and seasonings - all BBQ spices including paprika, brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, sea salt and pepper.

BBQ sauce - you can use my homemade BBQ recipe (highly recommended) or buy it at the store.

Sandwich and slaw buns - feel free to use any buns you like. I usually look for a grain burger bun. With the slaw, I highly recommend my vinegar slaw. No mayo and very good!

I love this recipe because it is full of flavor! You start by burning the onions and garlic. Then add the jackfruit and spices - it's almost like a dry base! Lastly, you will mix BBQ sauce and get a taste of flavor on flavor!


Provisioning and Maintenance Suggestions

I highly recommend eating BBQ jackfruit on a banana, like a sliced ​​pork sandwich. Coleslaw and / or onions dipped in salt water make an excellent stop! BBQ jackfruit can be used for BBQ tacos, wraps or a BBQ bowl. You can't really go wrong!


Lastly, I recommend that you keep any residue in an airtight container for up to a week. I would not recommend freezing as the texture may change once it is frozen and melted.

Ingredients

  • 1 14 oz can raw / immature jackfruit packed in water
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil or avocado
  • ⅓ cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ spoon of brown sugar
  • ½ a tablespoon of chili powder
  • ½ spoonful of onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ A teaspoon of sea salt
  • a bit of cayenne pepper
  • ¼ a cup of BBQ sauce, (made at home or in a store)
  • burger buns and coleslaw, to fill

Instructions

 

Peel a squash, grate it and squeeze the juice.

Heat a medium / large skillet over medium heat. Add two teaspoons of oil. When hot, add the onion and garlic and cook until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Season with a little salt and pepper and stir occasionally so that the garlic does not burn.

While the onions and garlic are cooking, combine the BBQ spices (paprika, brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, sea salt and cayenne pepper) in a small bowl.

Add chopped jackfruit and spices to the skillet. Mix well to blend. Reduce heat to low and allow the jackfruit to cook for 1-2 minutes with the spices before adding the BBQ sauce. Dip the jackfruit in the sauce and cook another 3-4 minutes, until the jackfruit is completely warm.

For sandwiches, apply warmly to a coleslaw-shaped bun.
